Similarly web content will also have certain life cycle to manage.  For example a corporate policy may have to be revisited on yearly basis as per the corporate guidelines.  Hence a policy page on the website (or Intranet) must be reviewed and updated periodically.

Recently we were involved in migration project for one of the top 20 fastest growing County Government of United States. The County had been using the Broadvision portal and content management system for its primary internet site. Usually customers who had made huge investments in IBM hardware would like to go with IBM solutions for Content Management and Portals.  These solutions are often expensive, inflexible and hard to maintain.  There are many supier Open Source based content management systems, but most of them run only on LAMP stack, they can't be deployed on IBM stack.
 

 
One of the nice features of Alfresco is its' flexible workflow engine. If designed properly, Alfresco can handle very complex business processes. Let us assume that one of the Alfresco implementation is designed to initiate a 3 stage serial workflow. 

 
Alfresco is a highly scalable content management system where you can store millions of documents and perform many workflow tasks.  Alfresco provides a basic dashboard to list and track the tasks.  You can also configure Alfresco to provide full audit trail information.
