CIGNEX was mentioned as a “Sample Vendor” in “Hype Cycle for Open Source, 2012” and “Hype Cycle for ICT in India, 2012” published by Gartner, a leading analyst firm. The reports are an acknowledgement of the Open Source value we have been delivering to our clients over the past 12 years.

The Open Source Phenomenon

About a decade back while there was a significant acceptance towards the concept of Open Source, the major skepticism arose from its lack of maturity to build enterprise applications and ability to provide support on top of those solutions. At CIGNEX we have always recognized the power that Open Source derives from the strong community and the reusability and flexibility it offers to application development. A key driver for this change was the open architecture and functional strength of solutions like Alfresco, Liferay, and Drupal which leveraged the strength of Open Source to provide enterprise class solutions with 24*7 support similar or better than their proprietary alternatives. For over a decade, we have leveraged our strengths to deliver robust open source enterprise solutions to enterprises by integrating Open Source with legacy and proprietary solutions to provide an Open IT environment.

Gartner’s Hype Cycle for Open Source

The whole Open Source curve has gone 360 degrees with the recent Gartner report on “Hype Cycle for Open Source, 2012”. The report not only recognizes the Open Source maturity that the industry has strived for, but also mentions key reasons why Open Source adoption is gaining popularity. An excerpt of the Business Impact from Open Source from the report:

OSS will affect the entire ecosystem — from AD to deployment and distribution of those applications. It will also affect organizations and all proprietary and commercial vendors because they will be forced to open their products for integration, participate in the open-source community, lower their product prices and modify the business model to meet competition from OSS. User organizations will maximize on-premises usage of OSS with support from internal IT departments. Organizations will also look to adopt OSS as a key strategy to control recurring maintenance costs.

Open Source and India

At CIGNEX, we are able to leverage the deep pool of talent in our Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai centers. The thought leadership plays a very important role with  diverse skills and expertise in our successful implementations.  Our practices around various technologies form a huge network where approaches and skillsets can be brought for problem solving and knowledge sharing.

With solutions like mobile, cloud, and big data driving the technology adoption, Open Source is an important entity and we continue to focus on delivering scalable and real time solutions for enterprise use cases.
